Fundraising inspired by identity and institutional principles

The development of an endowment and the activation of fundraising initiatives inspired by identity principles are in support of institutional projects such as funded and endowed chairs, scholarships and loans of honor.

Abstract

The central objective of the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan is the creation of a stable endowment, intended to support institutional purposes and projects of high symbolic value, in line with the values of the University: scholarships, funded and endowed chairs, merit-based incentives, research and social impact initiatives.

To support the fundraising system, the "Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore" brand also represents a heritage to be enhanced, as does the involvement of alumnae and alumni, promoting a culture of giving based on belonging and a sense of giving back, and the strengthening of relations with stakeholders, involving them in projects and initiatives that consolidate their bond with the University.

Effective fundraising requires a structured organisation, with dedicated processes and defined governance and the adoption of a Code of Ethics that guarantees transparency and fairness.

The vision is that of a university that enhances prestige, mission and excellence to attract stable resources, strengthening its social impact and transforming reputational capital into lasting value.

Strategic objectives

The fundraising activity, oriented towards identity projects, will be guided by effective governance and an efficient organisational structure.

The establishment of a dedicated Unit is envisaged, with an Advisory Board for strategic guidance and an organisational unit responsible for operational management. The active role of Faculties and Campuses in enhancing existing opportunities is central.

The "Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore" brand, characterised by a strong intangible value, can be enhanced as a financial asset. Its economic value will be defined through brand equity processes.

The long-term financial objective is the establishment of a University endowment, inspired by the best international experiences, and the creation of a multi-year planning framework that also includes the diversification of funds and fundraising activities.

The central objective of fundraising is to consolidate and expand the network of potential donors by updating alumnae and alumni engagement strategies and strengthening relationships with companies on the Corporate Advisory Board, including through framework agreements with funded and endowed chairs and scholarships.

The destination of the funds raised reflects the principles of solidarity and right to education, through donation projects for scholarships and merit incentives aimed at economically disadvantaged people, students from the middle class and from the Global South. The School of Knowledge Integration is among the recipients of funding.

Transparency and ethical alignment are essential principles of fundraising, based on loyalty and trust. To this end, a Code of Ethics for Fundraising, an ethical guarantee "Seal of Quality" and regular reporting mechanisms will be adopted.

A robust fundraising system is based on a plurality of sources and destinations to support strategic projects, consistent with the identity principles of the University and in support of the educational and research community.

In this perspective, the strengthening of international partnerships with foundations and institutions and the development of campaigns for bequests, also enhancing property and artistic and cultural assets, are central.
